Understanding this collection

The Cretaceous was the final period of the Mesozoic and includes both early and late fossil communities. Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops belong near its end, while many other entries are much older. Marine reptiles and pterosaurs appear here alongside dinosaurs without becoming members of Dinosauria.
